Sonia Lather is a rising star in the world of boxing. The 23-year-old from Haryana, India has already made a name for herself by winning a bronze medal at the 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Early Life and Career

Lather took up boxing when she was just 12 years old, inspired by her older brother who was a boxer himself. In 2016, Lather made her senior debut at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

There, she defeated Estelle Moss of Australia before losing to eventual champion Liudmila Vorontsova of Russia in the semifinals. However, Lather bounced back in the bronze medal match, defeating Kelsey Ellis of Canada to become only the second Indian woman ever to win a medal at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Since then, Lather has gone on to win a silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games and a gold medal at the 2018 Strandja Memorial Tournament. She is currently ranked 8th in the world in the welterweight division and is considered one of India’s best hopes for a medal at the 2020 Olympic Games.
