Birendra Lakra – An Indian Field Hockey Player

Birendra Lakra is an Indian field hockey player who has represented the country in several tournaments including the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. He was a member of the Indian team that won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games. Lakra has also played for the Ranchi Rays in the Hockey India League.

Story of Birendra Lakra 

Early Life and Career

Birendra Lakra was born on December 20, 1988, in Orissa, India. He began playing field hockey at a young age and went on to represent his state at the national level. In 2006, Lakra was part of the Indian team that won the Junior Asia Cup. 

He made his senior debut for India in 2007 and was part of the squad that won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009.

Lakra was selected for the 2010 World Cup but did not play due to an injury. He made his Olympic debut at the 2012 Summer Games and was part of the team that won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. 

Lakra was also a member of the Indian squad that won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games.

In 2015, Lakra signed with Ranchi Rays for the Hockey India League. He helped his team win the inaugural edition of the tournament. Lakra has also played for Jaypee Punjab Warriors and Uttar Pradesh Wizards in the Hockey India League.
