Phogat Sisters – A Dynasty in the Making

The Phogat sisters are six sisters from Haryana, India, all of whom are wrestlers. In order of their birth, they are Geeta, Babita, Priyanka, Ritu, Vinesh, and Sangeeta. They have been making headlines for their accomplishments in the sport of wrestling and are considered a dynasty in the making.

Story of Phogat Sisters

The eldest sister, Geeta, was the first to make a name for herself when she won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She followed that up with a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win an Olympic medal. 

Her success has inspired her younger sisters to pursue their own dreams in the sport of wrestling.

Babita is the second eldest sister and is a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist. She won her first gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and her second at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. 

She is also a world championships silver medalist, having finished second at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest.

The third sister, Priyanka, is a Commonwealth Games bronze medalist. She won her medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

Ritu is the fourth sister and is a world championships bronze medalist. She won her medal at the 2018 World Championships in Budapest.

Vinesh is the fifth sister and is an Olympic bronze medalist. She won her medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Sangeeta is the youngest sister and is a Commonwealth Games silver medalist. She won her silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

The Phogat sisters are dominating the sport of wrestling and inspiring other young women to pursue their dreams. They have accomplished so much at such a young age and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. With six sisters all competing at the highest level, it’s safe to say that this dynasty is here to stay!
