Story of Hima Das
Hima was born in Nagaon, Assam, India in 2000. Growing up, she loved playing sports but didn’t start running competitively until she was 14 years old. When she started high school, she joined her school’s track and field team and quickly began to excel.
It was clear that she had a natural talent for running. After just a few short years of training, she was already beginning to make a name for herself on the national stage.
In 2018, Hima competed in the IAAF World U20 Championships in Finland. This was a huge event; the best athletes from all over the world were there vying for a chance to win gold.
Hima entered the race as an underdog but quickly proved everyone wrong by taking the lead and crossing the finish line first. She made history that day, becoming the first Indian woman ever to win gold at a global sporting event.
Since then, Hima has gone on to compete in numerous other competitions, including the Asian Games and the World Athletics Championships. She continues to train hard and is determined to make India proud by winning even more medals in the years to come.
Hima Das is an incredible athlete who has already accomplished so much at such a young age. She is an inspiration to girls and women all over India (and beyond!) and proof that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and work hard. We can’t wait to see what amazing feats she accomplishes next!
