I once came to know that there was a coach from Afghanistan who had come to Delhi and was giving coaching in\u00a0<strong>Taekwondo.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I approached that person and thus my career in Taekwondo started. He has played a major role in my career path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: Normal people who don\u2019t have that much knowledge about sports don\u2019t understand the\u00a0difference between Judo, Karate and Taekwondo. What made you decide to choose Taekwondo over any sport?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: Basically I knew the difference between the three games. The\u00a0<strong>main reason<\/strong>\u00a0behind choosing\u00a0<strong>Taekwondo is that it is an Olympic Sport<\/strong>\u00a0and this game receives plenty amount of respect in the World. Taekwondo is often considered among the Top Sports in Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: Achieving something like this requires\u00a0great support and motivation. Who are those people who have helped you in your journey till today?<br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: First of all, everything was possible because of my\u00a0<strong>parents<\/strong>\u00a0as they never restricted me to anything and allowed me to choose the game I want. They are open-minded and didn\u2019t give that much importance to fact that \u201c<em>Lok kya kahenge?<\/em>\u201d Along with my parents,\u00a0<strong>my sister<\/strong>\u00a0has played an important role in my life as she has helped me to keep myself motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: Just as you said your\u00a0coach\u00a0played the most important part in your career building. Please tell us something about your coach.<br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: My coach\u00a0<strong>Sayed Hassan Rezay<\/strong>\u00a0is the person who has suffered a lot. Back in Afghanistan, he has been\u00a0<strong>a victim of harassment, terrorism and hundreds of threats.<\/strong>\u00a0He was attacked with knives, has cuts on his body but he didn\u2019t give up. His\u00a0<strong>dedication and determination<\/strong>\u00a0is what inspires me the most. Just imagine what miracles he can do if the people, government and players support him for the cause he is working for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: Apart from your coach and parents, who are your\u00a0role models? Who is that person you wish to become like?<br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: Let me be very honest. I don\u2019t want to be like others and achieve what some people have already done. Keeping the achievements on a side,<strong>\u00a0I don\u2019t like people comparing me to some others.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>I have an individual identity and\u00a0<strong>I wish to create my image as a sole person<\/strong>. Not like someone else who people already talk about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210516141540im_\/https:\/\/sportsbeatsindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG-20190217-091159.jpg?x52006\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13265\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: What was the\u00a0reaction of the society\u00a0when you started Taekwondo and how did you face the criticism?<br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: Society reacted in different ways and I faced criticism and hatred. People asked me what was the need to play a game like Taekwondo. They even abused my coach saying he is a terrorist, he is an Afghani, and he shouldn\u2019t be here in India and what not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>I won\u2019t blame the people for this but I would blame the mentality of the society. The thinking process and the way people think about others is what we need to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: Performing so well at the international level must be requiring a lot of hard work and sacrifices. Please tell us something about your\u00a0schedule, diet and training.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: According to me, if you want to succeed in something you need to\u00a0<strong>restrict yourself from some luxuries and pleasures<\/strong>. I train extremely hard under my coach and I only get weekends off from the hectic schedule. Talking about diet, I need to maintain my fitness and weight in order to compete with full intensity against the opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Talking about strictness, just good as a person he is, my coach is extremely\u00a0<strong>dedicated and focused<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>If we make mistakes while training or take things lightly, we all players face punishment which may be harsh at times but we all know that this is going to benefit us the most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210516141540im_\/https:\/\/sportsbeatsindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Kashish-Malik-Training.jpg?x52006\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13267\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: People set some goals and aims in life. What is your\u00a0final aim of Life?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: Honestly speaking I don\u2019t have any final aim. I just\u00a0<strong>set targets<\/strong>\u00a0for myself and after the target is achieved, I set another target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>First I dreamt to play at the state at national level. After I completed that, my target was to represent India and win a medal. Now as I am a regular Indian player, now my target is an Olympic Medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>So for me,\u00a0<strong>setting a target and completing it<\/strong>\u00a0is more important than setting any final aim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: Each game demands something from you and if you feel short of something, you are most likely to face\u00a0injuries. Have you faced any injuries in your career till now?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: Injuries are a part of everyone\u2019s career. In Taekwondo, players face injuries which are\u00a0<strong>90% related to legs or lower body<\/strong>. Taekwondo involves kicks which may lead to\u00a0<strong>knee injuries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Just before the 2018 Asian Games I faced an injury but managed to overcome that perform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: According to you what are the\u00a0problems a Taekwondo player faces\u00a0during his career?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: The most important problem according to me is the<strong>\u00a0importance given to the player<\/strong>. In India people don\u2019t care enough as much as they do for Cricket. Come on Guys, we all represent the same Tri-colour as they do. We expect much more\u00a0<strong>support<\/strong>\u00a0from you and trust me, we really work hard as we also want to make the nation proud by winning medals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without the support of the nation, we players are reaching high levels, just think what all we can achieve if we get\u00a0<strong>motivation<\/strong>\u00a0and support from 1.2 billion people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Image result for kashish malik\" width=\"642\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210516141540im_\/http:\/\/www.taekwondodata.com\/images\/persons\/450\/29250_02_01.jpg\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Photo: Taekwondo Data<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: As you said, lack of support from people is a major concern, but does the\u00a0government or federation\u00a0helps you in funding or do they do the management work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Kashish<\/strong>: Leave the people; we are mostly disappointed by the approach with which the government looks at the players playing games like Taekwondo. They don\u2019t consider us important and they hardly function for our well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>This year we couldn\u2019t go the World Championship because we didn\u2019t receive our Visa. If the government or federation had looked into it, it wouldn\u2019t have been a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Another problem is that the lack of quality coaching. In India there are very few coaches who are really good and have the correct knowledge to teach Taekwondo. Many things can change in your life is you get the correct person who will guide you and make you walk on the\u00a0<strong>correct path<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the parents\u2019 job to decide who the correct coach for their child is.\u00a0<strong>Seriousness and dedication<\/strong>\u00a0is needed in order to succeed.
