At the age of 19 he first represented India. His first major tournament in which he finished on the podium was 2011 Commonwealth Junior Championships in which he won a Silver Medal.

Vikas is an Indian National Record Holder in the 94kg category. He also holds the National Games record in 85 kg category.
The 2018 CWG Bronze Medal means a lot for Vikas and his family as the 94kg category was not at all easy and he had shifted from his comfort zone to this category.
At the age of 21, Vikas won his first CWG Medal in the 85kg category which was a Silver Medal.
When asked about 2014 CWG Silver Medal, his family states that the efforts Vikas had put in and the perfect guidance he received from his coaches raised the expectation bar and it paid of as he won the Medal.
