Sultan Azlan Shah Cup: Indian Hockey Team Finished Fifth

Indian Mens Hockey team faced Ireland in their sixth match of the ongoing 27th edition of Sultan Azlan Shah Cup six-team hockey tournament at Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia on March 10.

Indian team crushed Irish team by 4-1 in their sixth encounter for fifth/sixth place. With this win India finished fifth in ongoing Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. Indian team scored 1 goal each in first two quarters of the game while in third quarter they scored two goals in short interval of time. Varun Kumar (5th and 32nd minute), Shilanand Lakra (28′) and Gurjant Singh (37′) scored goals from Indian side. While only goal from Irish team was score by Julian Dale (48′) in last quarter.

Efforts of Indian team went into ruins when in fifth match they lost to Ireland.

Earlier Indian team needed a big win against Ireland in their fifth match in order to make it to the final play offs but shockingly Irish team beat Indian team by 3-2. Indian team were on lead at the end of the first quarter but later they disappointed with their performance. Ramandeep Singh (10′) and Amit Rohidas (26′) scored goals from India, while Shane O’Donoghue (24′), Sean Murray (36′) and Lee Cole (42′) guided Irish team to victory.
