List of Indian Track Athletes Who Qualified for the Asian Games 2018

In the month of August this year, India will participate in one of the major multi-sports events of the Asian continent, THE ASIAN GAMES. This year Asian Games are scheduled between the 18th August to 2nd September. The 18th edition of the Asian Games will be hosted by Jakarta & Palembang. India will face many sporting giants the events like China, Japan, South Korea etc.

At the 2014 Asian Games held in Ichelon India finished 8th in the medal tally with the total medal count of 57; 11 gold, 10 silver & 36 bronze. Out of 57 medals, India bagged 13 medals in the athletics events; 2 gold, 4 silver & 7 bronze.

In the previous edition of the Asian Games Indian athletes participating in the track events bagged 7 medals out of 13; 1 gold, 1 silver & 5 bronze. Other 6 medals came from field events. This year Indian track athletes will certainly try to push their limits and to increase the medal count as compared to the previous editions.

To shortlist the candidates for the upcoming Asian Games 2018 Athletics Federation of India held a four-day event for which Qualification Standards were set. Here is the list of the athletes who successfully bagged a ticket to the Asian Games. The following mentioned athletes are qualified for the Asian Games based on their performances at the 58TH NATIONAL INTERSTATE SR ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Jinson Johnson & Dutee Chand set a new national record by breaking the previous one. Dutee Chand broke her previous national record of 11.30s in the women’s 100m run set in 2017. She recorded a new time of 11.29s to become the fastest women in India. While Jinson Johnson broke 42 year old national record in the event of men’s 800m run. The previous record was set by Sriram Singh Montreal in the year 1976 when he clocked a time of 1:45.77; his record was overwrote by Johnson when he clocked a time of 1:45.65.
