Junior Hockey World Cup Winning Team Member

Early Days and Career

He started playing hockey from his school days and also represented his state Punjab in the junior National championships. In 2012 he got a call for the junior national team. After this tournament he faced an injury which kept him away from the game for almost 2 years.

He came back stronger and displayed his beautiful game in 2014 Junior National Championships and received a call for the national side.

He played for Punjab Warriors in the Hockey India League.

International Senior Career

Representing the senior National side he was a part of the gold medal winning team for the Asia Cup 2017 and the Silver Medal winning team in Champions Trophy 2018.

Varun admires his senior team members like Manpreet Singh and the retired Sardar Singh. He asks other players about how he could improve his game and contribute in a good way towards the team.

The 2018 Champions Trophy experience was a great one for Varun as he expresses that he learnt a lot of tactics, playing styles and game plays from the opponents he faced or the matches he watched.
