S.V. Sunil has faced extreme conditions as his mother passed away when he was 4 years old.
He used bamboo as hockey sticks during his young age. His family was financially unstable as his father worked as a carpenter and brother was a goldsmith.
Sunil made his international debut in 2007.
Being a halfback he played as a forward in 2011 Champion’s Challenge and scored 4 goals, the most by an Indian forward.
He represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where India won the silver medal.
Sunil was bought by the Punjab Warriors in the inaugural season of Hockey India League.
He was presented the Arjuna Award in 2017 for his contribution in hockey.
