Hailing from the Khewda village in Haryana, Seema began training at the age of 11. She began as a hurldler and long-jumper, but chose to switch to discus throw. She won Gold at the 2000 World Junior Championships in Santiago, thus earning her the nickname of “Millenium Child”.
She won Silver at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and was felicitated with the Bhim award by the Govt. of Haryana. She went on to win Bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, and Silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also won Gold at the Asian Games in 2014.
Doping scandals aside, Seema has represented her country very well in world events. At the age of 32, she is still competing in world events.
