Performance of Indian Athletics Players in 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships

The 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships was held between 27 September and 6 October 2019 in Doha, Qatar.

Results :

Day 1 :

  • M Sreeshankar (Men’s Long Jump Event) : Qualification – 7.62 Metres (Rank – 22)
  • Jabir Madari Pillyalil (400 Metres Hurdles Men Event) : Qualification – Heat 1 – 49.62 (.619) Seconds (Rank – 3)
  • Dharun Ayyasamy (400 Metres Hurdles Men Event) : Qualification – Heat 5 – 50.55 Seconds (Rank – 6)

Day 2 :

  • Dutee Chand (Women’s 100 Metres Event) : Heat 3 – Round 1 – 11.48 (.478) Seconds (Rank – 7)
  • Jabir Madari Pillyalil (400 Metres Hurdles Men Event) : Semifinal – Heat 3 – 49.71 Seconds (Rank – 5)
  • Indian Team (Mixed 4×400 Metres Relay Event) : Heat 2 – Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Velluva Koroth Vismaya, Jisna Mathew, Noah Nirmal Tom3:16.14 Minutes (Rank – 3)

Day 3, 4 :

  • Indian Team (Mixed 4×400 Metres Relay Event) : Final – Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Velluva Koroth Vismaya, Jisna Mathew, Noah Nirmal Tom3:15.77 Minutes (Rank – 7)

The Indian mixed relay team reached into the finals and wins their berth for Tokyo 2020. In the final, they timed their season-best timing to finish on the 7th position.

  • Annu Rani (Women’s Javelin Throw Event) : Qualification – Group A – 62.43 Metres (Rank – 3) (National Record)

In women’s javelin throw, Annu Rani created a new national record of 62.43 Metres in the qualification to qualify for the final on the 5th position.

  • Anjali Devi (Women’s 400 Metres Event) : Heat 6 – 52.33 Seconds (Rank – 6)
  • Archana Suseendran (Women’s 200 Metres Event) : Heat 2 – 23.65 Seconds (Rank – 8)

Day 5 :

  • Avinash Sable (Men’s 3000 M Steeplechase Event) : Heat 3 – 8:25.23 Minutes (Rank – 7) (National Record)

In the Men’s 3000 Metres Steeplechase, Avinash Sable qualify for the final of the Men’s 3000 Metres Steeplechase after winning an appeal, he proved that he was blocked twice during the race, and he got a favorable decision. Avinash clocked 8:25.23 and created a new national record to finish 7th in Heat 3.

  • Annu Rani (Women’s Javelin Throw Event) : Final – 61.12 Metres (Rank – 8)

Annu Rani failed to repeat her performance from qualifying of throw over 62 Metres. Still, she finished a creditable 8th place in the final.

Day 6 :

  • P U Chitra (Women’s 1500 Metres Event) : Heat 2 – 4:11.10 Minutes (Rank – 8) (Personal Best)

Day 7 :

  • Tajinder Pal Singh Toor (Men’s Shot Put Event) : Qualification – Group B – 20.43 Metres (Rank – 8) (Season Best)
  • Jinson Johnson (Men’s 1500 Metres Event) : Heat 2 – 3:39.86 (.856) Minutes (Rank – 10)

Day 8 :

  • Avinash Sable (Men’s 3000 Metres Steeplechase Event) : Final – 8:21.37 Minutes (Rank – 13) (National Record)

Another impressive run by Avinash Sable in the Men’s 3000 Metres Steeplechase Final. He finished the race with the timing of 8:21.37 Minutes, this was the New National Record, but importantly, he has secured a place in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as his timing was within the qualifying cutoff of 8:22.00. This was the 4th time in the last one year he’s broken the NR established by Gopal Saini in 1981 (8:30.88 Minutes).

Day 9 :

  • Irfan K T (Men’s 20 Km Race Walk Event) : Final – 1:35:21 Hours (Rank – 27)
  • Devender Singh (Men’s 20 Km Race Walk Event) : Final – 1:41:48 Hours (Rank – 36)
  • Shivpal Singh (Men’s Javelin Throw Event) : Group A – 78.97 Metres (Rank – 10)
  • Indian Team (Women’s 4×400 Metres Relay Event) : Heat 1 – Jisna Mathew, Machettira Poovamma Raju, Velluva Koroth Vismaya, Venkatesan Subha3:29.42 Minutes (Rank – 6) (Season Best)
  • Indian Team (Men’s 4×400 Metres Relay Event) : Heat 2 – Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Karekoppa Suresh Jeevan, Noah Nirmal Tom3:03.09 Minutes (Rank – 7)
