Recently concluded Spanish Para-Badminton International Tournament was fruitful for India as two of Indian shuttlers bagged couple of gold medals in their respective categories, while India in total won six medals.
India’s Sukant Kadam and Manasi Joshi with their impressive performance won gold medals. Sukant Kadam top seed competing in the men’s singles SL4 category won all his five matches before he took on Korea’s Kyung Hwan Shin in final. In his sixth and final match against Shin he never let his opponent strike back and won the match by 21-16 21-16.
Standing Lower SL4 Category-
A second standing class where the player has a lesser impairment compared to Sport Class SL 3. The player could have impairment in one or both lower limbs and minimal impairment in walking/running balance.
On the other hand Manasi Joshi competing in the women’s singles SL3 category finished on the top of the podium. She won all her matches. She defeated Darunee Henpraiwan by 12-21, 21-17, 21-19 and then followed it up with a 21-15, 21-17 win over Asami Yamada and a 23-21, 21-18 win over Katarzyna Ziebek.
Manasi won a gold in women’s singles SL3 category, while she bagged a silver and a bronze each in the SL3-SU5 Women’s doubles category with Japan’s Mamiko Toyoda and in the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles category with Ilker Tuzcu of Turkey respectively.
Standing Lower SL 3 Category-
In this class a player must play standing. The player could have impairment in one or both lower limbs and poor walking/running balance.
Earlier Umesh Vikram Kumar won a couple of bronze medals in the Men’s Singles in SL3 category and a Men’s doubles medal in SL3-SL4 event with partner Chawarat Kitichokwattana of Thailand.
