22nd Federation Cup: National Sr. Athletics Tournament Day 4

The very special thing about this federation cup is records that were made. Everyday a previous record was erased and a new was set by one of the athletes.

Federation Cup National Sr. Athletics Championships a national record was set by Dharun Ayyasamy of Tamilnadu. Dharun Ayyasamy aged 21, rewrote an 11 year old national record in men’s 400m hurdles. Dharun clocked 49.45s to finish a quarter mile. This was quickest finish in 400m hurdles event on any Indian ground. Previous national record was set by Joseph Abraham when he clocked 49.51s in Osaka in 2007.Dharun Ayyasamy also qualified for CWG as he finished exactly on the mark of 49.45s.

Arpinder Singh Indian triple jumper achieved a leap of 16.61m and qualified for CWG by 1cm. Qualification mark for CWG was 16.60m.

Hima Das hailing from Assam clocked a time of 23.37seconds in 200m event but failed to qualify for CWG. She missed a 20 year old national record set by PT Usha of 23.30s by just 0.07s. But this was promising performance by Hima as she is just 18 years old and is yet to compete in many upcoming events. She has already qualified for CWG in Women’s 400m Race.

Another impressive performance was from Jinson Johnson from 1500m arena. Johnson clocked a time of 3.39:69 which was just 0.19s short to that of CWG qualification mark. While doing so he set a new meet record by erasing previous one set 11 years ago by Chatholi Hamza of 3:41:12. These efforts helped him win gold.
